Chocolate Chess Squares Recipe (1)

Chocolate Chess Squares Recipe (2)We get asked all the time what our favorite recipes are. I won’t lie – am definitely the type to play favorites, especially when it comes to dessert! One of our most popular recipes are our Cheesecake Chess Squares. I don’t think I have ever made them and given them to someone without them asking for the recipe! They are amazing. The other day, I was craving something a little more chocolatey, so I decided to combine the best of both worlds, and these beautiful babies were born.

You can’t tell from the picture, but it’s an extreme close up. Why? Because I literally had three 1-inch squares left when I remembered to take a picture of them! I was too distracted by the taste (don’t worry – I shared!). 🙂

Ingredients

  • 15.25 ounces chocolate cake mix (I used devil's food)
  • ½ cup butter melted
  • 3 eggs
  • 8 ounces cream cheese softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon cocoa

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 300 degrees.

  • Spray a 9x13" pan with cooking spray.

  • In a medium-sized bowl, mix together the chocolate cake mix, melted butter, and one egg until it forms a soft dough. Press this mixture into the bottom of the 9x13" pan.

  • In another bowl, mix together the cream cheese, powdered sugar, cocoa, and remaining two eggs until smooth. Pour over top the cake mixture.

  • Bake for 40-50 minutes, until the tops and edges start to crack and turn a more golden brown.

They are fine to sit out for a few hours, but for storing I would keep them in the fridge.

These are dangerously delicious! The worst part is that they are so easy to make. How are we supposed to fight that combination? Absolutely amazing & made with ingredients I always have in my pantry. My grandchildren & neighbors wanted me to thank you.
